Lexus

You've seen ice tires on a bike and a truck made of ice, but ice tires on a car?! Yep, Lexus did it and they did it well.

To be fair, the tires have an acrylic core that the carved ice tires are attached to because the weight of ice could not support the Lexus NX luxury crossover SUV. But that doesn't make this any less badass—especially when you add in the LED lights to the ice tires.

When Lexus claimed they had cracked the hoverboard code earlier this summer, we were more than a little skeptical. But now it's time for our heaping helping of humble pie, with the luxury automaker unveiling the first actual hoverboard action edit since a couple of asteroids collided, exploded, and fused into the giant hunk of steaming space rock we now call earth. Needless to say, we are out of words, thoughts, and sounds when it comes to this one, so we'll shut it up and check it out for yourself.

The Lexus hoverboard is the action sports story of the year thus far. You've seen it. So have your parents, and probably your grandparents too. It's everywhere—inescapable—and yet the genesis has raised more questions than it has answered. With this behind-the-scenes look, however, Lexus—with the help of the scientists and skaters involved—certainly sheds some more light on the making of this potentially game-changing gadget. Welcome to the future, everyone.
