Erik Roner has been keeping busy as evidence from this action-packed new episode of RonerVision! Erik kicks things off skydiving with buddy Bob Burnquist over the 2012 Nike US Open of Surfing and gives us his take on parachute packing 101. Next Erik heads out to Glen Helen raceway joining Greg Godfrey and some of the Nitro Circus Crew for an epic night of truck racing. Summer wouldn't be complete without some good old fashioned R&R, so Erik finishes things off back home in Tahoe, living the good life with son Oskar. As always Oskar gets into big things—this month it's extreme tubing. Hang on!

Pro surfer Alana Blanchard's calendar leading up to the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California was packed with obligations beyond surfing. Like filming a nationally televised T-Mobile commercial that lasted all night followed by a photo shoot for Rip Curl the next morning. Alana manages to pull it all off effortlessly on this new episode of Surfer Girl. But she never loses sight of her surfing. With the US Open around the corner Alana makes time for some warmup surf sessions at Huntington Beach. Alana shares all these moments on social media because it strengthens her connection with her fans and keeps her motivated.

The US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach gets bigger and bigger each year with crowds of over half-a-million surf fans (and some posers). On this episode of [Surfer Girl]3, pro surfer Alana Blanchard is focused on surfing well in the crucial ASP Women's World Tour event and gets a tad overwhelmed by the incredible crowd support. Like fellow high-profile pro surfer Kelly Slater, her celebrity has made it impossible for her to navigate the masses on her own without security guards. Alana advances through a few rounds, upsetting Australian surfer Tyler Wright right off the bat. In between heats Alana takes time to meet with her fans, signing autographs and taking photos.

Skateboarder shows off his skills at the US Open of Surfing.
The Hurley team had a very successful trip to the US Open of Surfing. Alejo Muniz won the men's surfing contest, Carissa Moore was the women's surf champion, and skater Greyson Fletcher finished second in the Van Doren Invitational bowl contest. Fletcher also showed that he is quite the juggler. So if this skating thing doesn't work out, he always has that to fall back on.

The Vans US Open of Surfing has gotten underway this week, and things are rolling along in the dustbowl of Huntington Beach, California. One of the most exciting spectacles about witnessing the annual biggest surf contest is when surfers shoot the pier. What's shooting the pier you ask? Well, it's quite possibly one of the most dangerous things any surfer surfing a normal-sized wave can do.

The cement pylons of the Huntington Beach pier are some of the most treacherous in the world. And attempting to surf through them is a skill that even the best get humbled by. People have even died attempting to do it. So with the US Open starting to heat up, here's some pointers on shooting the pier from pro surfers who have done it successfully and also paid the price trying it.

Pat Gudauskas and his brothers, Tanner and Dane, have been attending the US Open of Surf since they were little kids. With the Open going on this week, Pat shared his favorite memory of Huntington Beach, California, which hosts the legendary surf contest each year. Pat's moment has nothing to do with the surf, however, and is all about a young kid's excitement over a gravity-defying Dairy Queen Blizzard. It's hard to blame him. They are delicious.

Raven Tershy is not from Philadelphia. Raven Tershy is from Santa Cruz, California. But apparently he's still a huge Allen Iverson fan. And really, who isn't?

We're not saying that wearing the Allen Iverson jersey allowed Raven to step it up when it mattered most, but it certainly didn't hurt either. Raven took down a stacked field at the 2014 Van Doren Invitational amidst the Vans US Open of Surfing, and his skating was completely on-point the entire time. Check out the full results below.

As swell drops, Huntington Beach sees mix of upsets and top performances.
Day 4 of the the US Open of Surfing is in the books and it featured lot of top surfers in the water at Huntington Beach. The women's WCT contest kicked off. One of the highlights was Alana Blanchard pulling off a late upset over Tyler Wright. In the men's contest, Julian Wilson pulled off a massive backside air for a near-perfect score of 9.83 out of 10. Michel Bourez was also dominant with his unique brand of power surfing.

The Van Doren Invitational is one helluva skate contest in conjunction with the US Open of Surfing. Each year they build a massive bowled skatepark for the world's best transition skaters like Greyson Fletcher to fly around on like a bat out of hell.

This year's contest goes down this weekend in Huntington Beach, California, so Omar Hassan broke down the course. The bowl is modeled after the park at Marseilles in France and is built to host a raw contest where winning and losing takes a backseat to raw skating.

Qualifiers for the Van Doren Invitational take place on August 2 from 4-6pm PT. The semifinals and finals go down on August 3 from 3-6 pm PT. Thrasher will host the live webcast.
