Snowboarder Devun Walsh was minutes away from tracheotomy after snowmobile crash in 1999
The X was already drawn on his throat
In 1999 snowboard legend Devun Walsh had a pretty close brush with death. He was fooling around with some buddies on their snowmobiles, hitting some jumps. On Walsh's last run of the day (it's always the last run, isn't it?) the skis of his snowmobile caught and Walsh's trachea slammed into his handlebars. He was helicoptered out and the EMTs were preparing to give him an emergency tracheotomy (he had the X on his throat and everything), but minutes before they were about to perform the surgery, his trachea healed itself. Yeah, that's not scary at all.
