Hear that sound? That's the sound of the drift, rally, and stunt driving worlds releasing a single, collectively held breath: Ken Block's long-awaited Gymkhana EIGHT is a go, made official by the announcement of his latest Franken-car earlier today. How this 650-hp, reflective paint-splattered Ford Fiesta Fiesta ST RX 43 stacks up to rest of Block's Gymkhana stable remains to be seen, but rest assured, Gymkhana EIGHT, which drops February 28th at 9pm PST (Midnight EST) on the Ford Performance YouTube, is sure to be a mind scrambler. Mark your calendars and start counting down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until take off.
Yesterday, Ken Block—after months of coy hints and outright secrecy—announced Gymkhana EIGHT with the unveiling of its star, a wild, 650-hp Ford Fiesta ST RX43 slathered in reflective paint and mounted on a mean set of Toyo rubber. Besides a premier date and time (Monday February 29th at 9pm PST), details remain scant, however, so we got to thinking: Of all the possible Gymkhana destinations on this giant, spinning orb of pavement, what would be the coolest, craziest, and, OK, probably most unrealistic? What follows are our 5 favorite (im)possibilities. Pull that E-brake and check them out.
Listen, we all knew Gymkhana EIGHT was going to be a little nuts. Blasting around the streets of Dubai in a Ford Fiesta that can do 0-60 in 1.8 seconds isn't something sane people do, after all. But we weren't prepared for THIS. We don't want to spoil any of the surprises—though there are plenty—but we will say that Ken Block, Ford Performance, and XDubai pulled out every last stop for this one, stitching together arguably the best Gymkhana yet in the process. Check it out and make sure to stay tuned for Block's tantalizing Gymkhana 9 teaser at the end.
